A Week in Search – 8th January 2024

David on 08 January 2024

Welcome to the very first edition of A Week in Search.

We do a hell of a lot of reading here at SEO Company, and a lot of articles and blogs we found are fired around the office. With it being a new year, we thought we would start sharing our favourite/ the most interesting blogs of the previous week.

So, without further ado, here is A Week in Search.

10 Predictions for Inbound Marketing in 2024 – SEOmoz

Rand is going through his predictions from last year to see how well he did –  which is ‘Pretty Well’ it seems. Our (Not Provided) Count project even got a mention when backing up one of his claims, which was pleasing. Check out the blog to get Rand’s low down on what is to be expected in 2024 for SEO (or is that Inbound Marketing?).

The Strange Explanation Of Why Windows Phone Users Lost Access To Google Maps – Search Engine Land

Interesting article from Danny Sullivan on Google’s approach on offering (or not offering) Google products to non-Google devices. More specifically – Google not offering Google Maps to Windows Phones. Has this always been the case and people are only just noticing? Have Google only just turned this block on? How many phones does Danny Sullivan own? Answers to these questions and more over at the blog.

Update to Mobile Content and SEO Correlation Study for 2024 – Bryson Meunier

Bryson Meunier recently released some very interesting data that suggests that “having mobile content is highly correlated with getting organic traffic from Google”. Meunier’s data also shows that there are less responsive sites than last year (12% for the dataset last year, compared to 4% this year). I would have assumed responsiveness would be on the boom, especially considering current web trends. See more at the blog.

Link Building the Right Way in 2024 – Search Engine Watch

“Link Building? Where we’re going we don’t need ‘Link Building’…”

Link Earning; It’s the future.

A Test, Not A Bug: Bing Deep Links To Facebook, eBay, Craigslist Under Google’s Search Result – Search Engine Land

This is a bit of a peculiar one. What everyone was considered to be a bug, Bing came out and confirmed that the “Deep Links” (what Bing calls their version of Site Links) for the Google search result pointing to Facebook, YouTube, and others was in fact a test. “Eh?” I hear you say. Check out the blog to read more.
