Definition of brass Brass has three common meanings. The second and third meaning are based off of the first meaning. 1. A type of metal. 2. A group of people in authority. (Slang) 3. A type of musical instrument. The second definition comes from military slang, and referred to the central command. It came from the brass metal logos on officers hats. While it started as military slang, it is commonly used in normal speech when talking about a group of people in power. The third definition comes from the type of metal that the instruments were made out of. It includes things like tubas, trumpets, and saxophones.|Brass se pode traduzir como "latão".
