Bataille offers this tip: “I like to start by using a great foamy hair mousse; the idea is to get the hair nice and damp [with it]. Damp hair with a slight hold from the foam will help when brushing your hair into the perfect sleek ponytail.
Bataille (who, created this high pony for Halle Berry) suggests this technique when working with thick hair: Instead of grabbing all the hair at once, gather it at the crown in sections. After brushing a section up and securing it with an elastic, continue until all hair is off the neck. “I normally make three sections starting from the front, layering each elastic over the other,” he says.
